About me

Do you want to know more about the person who’s behind this page, as well as the purpose of the website? Then, you’re on the right page!

Hi! I’m Xen. I’m a self-taught artist who specializes in traditional portraits, usually with pencil or ink. On this website, you’ll be able to have a look at some of my work and, who knows, maybe you will even decide to get some of my art for yourself! If you like what you see, and you’d like to get a personalized piece, I will gladly take commissions here.

Let’s note, however, that I am not a full-time artist. I am a literature and communication student, who also has a part-time job on the side, so if you decide to commission something, I will try to make the most of my time, but you might have to be a bit more patient with me than with other artists.

Traditional portraits

I’m most comfortable drawing portraits, OC or recreating family pictures. I love trying to portray every little detail of a face and its emotions. However, as you’ll see if you decide to look around my galleries for a little while, I also enjoy drawing still life, backgrounds and animals. Most of my work is black and white and on traditional mediums, but I’m open to experimenting with colour, other mediums and digital options. In the future, I’d like to start selling prints and maybe even stickers and keychains, so stick around if you’d like to get some!

How did we get here?

I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember. My dad was the one who originally taught me how to draw. I remember he used to draw faces on post-it too, but his favourite thing to do was carve portraits into things. He once drew a portrait of my mother on a glass cup. As a result, I also got my fair share of carving and DIYs: carving on wood, paper mâché, wire flowers, sewing, and the list goes on.

I must say, my family has always encouraged creativity, although resources were often scarce and we had to make do of what we had. That’s also what got my art to what it is nowadays. Black and white on paper, pretty basic, right? But it does the job!

Believe

I do believe you don’t need a lot to make art and progress. Although it is true that you need a bit of a bigger budget to use some mediums like paint and alcohol markers, that doesn’t mean that you cannot make the most of what you already have! The progress you make now with the materials you have accessible to you, is progress you will not need to make later. Most of the skills you learn with pen and paper are transferable to other mediums that you’ll get to use later.

The purpose of this website is not only to make art and eventually sell it, but also to inspire other artists to make art, even if they lack budget or experience. That’s why, aside from my galleries, you’ll also find articles about what inspires me, my experience and some fun facts about some of my work, as well as some tips and tricks that have been useful to me during all those years. I hope you’ll enjoy looking around my page, and it will inspire you to create!
